Semioticians at the gate

Having been a lit major at the only college in the country that offered an undergraduate degree in Semiotics, I've always felt vaguely guilty about my own near-total ignorance of the subject. In college, we tended to write off the semiotics majors as hopelessly aloof, black-trenchcoated effetes.
But I always sort of suspected that if you got past the clouds of clove cigarette smoke and bad eighties alt-rock, those folks might just have been onto something. So I'm happy to report that Challis has written Semiotics: A Primer for Designers, a concise, accessible overview of that mysterious black-turtlenecked art - just the ticket for a not-quite-reformed Philistine like myself...
